We use state-of-the-art technology and evidence-proven methods to create amazing results. Whether it is the therapies we use, our convenient online patient portal, or our work with digital 3-D treatment planning, we are always interested in the ways innovative technology can enhance our work.
Cone Beam CT (“CBCT”) images allow our doctors to get a sophisticated three-dimensional view of facial and dental structures for more precise diagnosis and treatment planning. These radiographic studies are beneficial for patients with impacted teeth, facial asymmetry and for jaw surgery cases, to name just a few.
An Anatomodel is an impressionless study model created from a CBCT image. These are used for treatment simulation of orthodontic tooth movement.
3D photos are used for diagnosis and treatment planning as they allow for three-dimensional assessment of facial structures and smile esthetics. The software allows us to simulate different treatments and outcomes.
One of our most interesting pieces of technology is our intra oral digital scanner. This allows us to take an extremely accurate scan of the teeth to make a digital model, as an alternative to the traditional messy trays. We are then able to have retainers and other appliances 3-D printed based on this very accurate digital impression.
You may never have seen anything like Incognito™ Hidden Braces before! They are custom-fit golden braces that fit on the back side of your teeth, so they are absolutely invisible throughout your treatment. These are an excellent aesthetic option for adults and older teenagers.
Our practice is ranked a Center of Excellence by 3M Unitek, for our extensive work with Incognito™. The next nearest provider of this exclusive product is in the Twin Cities.
We also carry a very exciting product called Clarity™ brackets. These are a ceramic bracket that is very different from the so-called “clear” braces that you might remember from the past. Clarity brackets are made from a translucent material that blends with the color of your teeth and resists staining and discoloration over the course of treatment. They also have a smaller and lower-profile design that contributes to making them nearly impossible to see from even a couple of feet away.
If you like to show your favorite colors on your braces, you can still do this with Clarity™ by using the same colored ties used with traditional braces. The colors really seem to glow when used with these special braces! If you would like to see how Clarity™ would look on you (with or without colors), please visit http://www.paintyoursmile.com. You can upload a photo to help you visualize how your braces will look.
We are an Invisalign™ provider. We offer sets of high-quality clear polymer aligners, which gradually move teeth without brackets. These are a great option for adults and teens with certain orthodontic conditions. Come on in for a complimentary consultation to see whether these are an option for your situation.
Many people opt for traditional, tried-and-true metal braces. We use high-quality materials and have the full set of colored ties that kids (and many adults!) love. If you would like to pick out your colors, or try different designs, we have a great site where you can see them, on your own teeth. Visit http://www.paintyoursmile.com to upload a toothy smile of yourself and see how great your braces will look!
Holding appliances are used to maintain the positions of teeth. These appliances can be space maintainers alone, or they can be used to retain positions of teeth following orthodontic tooth movement.
Habit appliances are used to stop tongue thrusting, or to prevent thumb or finger habits.
Often the first step in orthodontic treatment, separators are placed around teeth to create small spaces so that bands can be fitted around molars.
For some patients, jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) is an important part of their orthodontic treatment plan. These surgical procedures correct upper and lower jawbone discrepancies, resulting in corrected occlusions (“bites”) and improved facial balance. Surgical orthodontics can address concerns with facial aesthetics, airway problems, and TMJ problems. Please ask Dr Ames whether you are a candidate for surgical orthodontics, and check out the following animations for some examples of jaw surgery procedures.
